Todays musical discoveries...

Dauwd - What's there
This is a hell of a tune, eery vocal samples and some of the most gorgeous synths i've heard recently. Big atmosphere but still a nice tune to dance too with the pumping bassline and shuffling clicks.

Untold - Mass Dreams of The Future
Untold makes some really interesting dance music. This one hits so hard when it comes in, guaranteed to kill any dance. I can't wait to play it somewhere.

Kingdom - Let You No
Been into kingdom for years upon years but its always nice to re-find big old tracks from artists you know you can always count on. Doesn't disappoint.

Why do I want to produce...

My goal is not to get famous or get releases on big labels, when I started I thought that was cool and a good thing to aim for but not any more. After putting in multiple hours over a few days into only 30 seconds or so of a track I've come to the realisation that the only goal I have now is not to compete with anyone/anything but my own standards. It took me a while (about 5 months in total using logic) to get to this point and I feel ashamed of myself for ever setting my goals as label releases etc but it has definitely given me a boost to make more music. No longer are my standards where everyone else is, I don't care if no one likes my productions. It's just a massive bonus to me if they do. I'm making music for me and only me, if you like it then please tell me as I care what you think if you like it because it's motivational, but I don't care if you don't. I feel like I'm finally expressing myself with my productions. Even with no lyrics... this is my personality in music.

Microphone Box Assignment

Welcome to my blog, I'm going to use this to post things I find interesting and also to post college work and the like...

For the homework I got asked to choose a range of microphones which I would include in my studio if I had one (and unlimited money.)

                                    The Neumann U 87 Ai

This microphone was voted 'The Best Microphone' by readers of sound on sound magazine so... it's got to be good.
It's a condenser microphone so it's very sensitive, perfect for vocals and softer instruments. It can be mounted in a mic cage and has a variety of features including select-able direction patterns and a 10db attenuation switch to help it handle louder sounds.

The KM 104 Plus

I'd use this microphone for kick drums and if i wanted to do any live gigs as it is a robust dynamic microphone. It's hard wearing but not very sensitive.

The KM 184

I'd use these for overheads due to their sensitivity and simplicity to direct. They're also small so can be easily moved around the studio space and placed over things without the worry of mic stands falling over and such.
